Artificial Photosynthesis

Background

Photosynthesis is a process in which plants capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and together with sunlight and water make long hydrocarbon chains (sugars) and oxygen. Now what if this process can be replicated by mankind, wouldn't that be wonderful? CO2 can be captured at a faster rate and made into useful products that will benefit mankind.

The key questions that will be looked into in this section are the following:

  1. What is the current state & stage of technology development to emulate photosynthesis?

  2. Can this process be artificially replicated? If yes, is it possible to sequester tons of CO2? thereby helping the climate.

  3. How does a system based on artificial photosynthesis look like?
